And Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; – Matthew 3:16
The word baptism is the Greek word baptizo, which means to dip into, immerse, or submerge. It is a figure of our deliverance. Water baptism should be the first step of faith you take after being born again. It is a way of illustrating outwardly and publicly to the world that which has taken place inwardly and spiritually in our lives. Water baptism represents in your life what Jesus did in His death, burial, and resurrection. After you have been baptized, you will be able to relate, in a sense, to what He has done for you by having symbolically done it yourself.
